Beach restaurants 2014/15 High Season

This topic replaces the previous one at tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g297914-i10908-k… which essentially dealt with the immediate situation after the beach clearance order issued by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) in August and gives the position with pics where available of the situation from the start of the current High Season. It will be added to with any updated information and pictures as the season progresses.

The previous link contains valuable information and pics and, of course, remains available.

1. Re: Beach restaurants 2014/15 High Season

As at 1st December 2014

* On Pak Weeb Beach between the Beyond and Mai Khao Lak, all the previous restaurants located on the beach were demolished. Some like Boom Boom relocated onto private land with a new addition, Orchid Restaurant, My Friend next to the Mai has a very nice upstairs dining area. Permission has been given for 19 plots along and right up to the beach access road. All the plots are the same size and smaller and lesser number than before. Old favourites like Ma Ma Lek's and Rasta Bar are in the process of being rebuilt. There will be less than previously but IMO it will be much nicer and certainly enough. See pics at https:/…

* On Pak Weeb Beach, between the Beyond and the headland past the Pullman (ex le Meridien) it is much the same as last year with Rim Lay if anything expanding.

* On Pak Weeb Beach around the headland, White Sand Beach remains much the same with fewer loungers on the beach (at the moment), Sip Song and Boatyard Restaurants continuing as before. See pics at https:/…

* On Pakarang Beach, Memories is well established on private land as are the loungers there. Khai's Family Seafood just down the beach is now Rim Lay 2, again on private land and with free loungers if you dine there. See pics at https:/…

* On Khuk Khak Beach to the right of the JWM, Ma Ma Greetings, Blue Mist, Andaman, Phen plus Phen 2 plus various massage places are all up and running just back from the beachfront which has now been cleared and looks wonderful. To the left of the JWM there is the Coconut Restaurant and Bar, no restaurants beachfront until the creek over to Bang Niang. See pics at https:/…

* On Bang Niang Beach Phew Restaurant at the northern end and Pine Restaurant at the South. See pics at https:/…

* On Nang Thong Beach only Peter Bar between the creek and the Sands.

That's as far as we've been so far.

More to follow with pics.

2. Re: Beach restaurants 2014/15 High Season

As at 2nd December 2014:

Good news for those staying at the Orchid Beach Hotel or Blue Lagoon Resort and previous visitors to the Sunset Bar overlooking Bang Niang Beach! Returning from Pak Weeb we had a ride down to the Orchid to confirm what I thought the latest position was i.e. Just the Lay Restaurant on the same side of the road as the Orchid half way to the Blue Lagoon with loungers across under the trees on the beach. This has been joined by our friend Kai who is just constructing his Family Seafood Restaurant having moved from Pakarang Beach. Due to open next week Kai thinks. We drove down past the still under construction Haven Resort to where one of our long time favourites used to be right at the end overlooking Bang Niang Beach. Well, we couldn't see it in its old location from Bang Niang Beach but it is still there, the Sunset has relocated onto a bigger and better private location under the trees bordering the beach. Restaurant, bar, massage places and loungers, free if you dine there.

See pics 44-65 in this album https:/…

Be careful here as it is still a sun trap!

4. Re: Beach restaurants 2014/15 High Season

Hi

Beyond is on Pak Weeb Beach, Blue Mist next to JWM on Khuk Khak Beach with 2/3 of Pak Weeb across Cape Pakarang and full length of Pakarang Beach in between. Probably take upto 2 hours in full sun. So doable but not practical. Taxi is best option. You have two restaurants to the immediate right of the Beyond then across the creek where a more permanent footbridge for crossing when the tide is in or at night has been constructed and you have more with even more under construction that will be complete well before the time you arrive. To the left past the Pullman you have the Rim Lay. Just next to the main entrance to the Beyond on the highway you have the relocated and still delicious Elicious and there are more on the other side of the highway. So no shortage of eateries and no real reason to go to Blue Mist for quality of food, price or location.

Hi Alan,

You're like our very own "on site reporter" Do you know if there are or will be any beach restaurants around the area of the Ramada?

Many thanks
