I assume there will be something going on in Khao Lak for the royal birthday... Is it a day off, and how is it usually celebrated?
No day off usually. If there are any celebrations they are usually on Bang Niang Beach near La Flora Resort. Edicts by the authorities nearer the time determine what can and can't be done. Last year there were hardly any celebrations at all. The Military Government has asked the Thai people to celebrate the King's Birthday this year. To what extent they do this year not known at this stage.
Thank you :-)
We were in Phuket for the Kings Birthday last year. We were quite surprised, that alcohol was still being sold, in the Thai Restaurants. The only thing that was shut was the Girlie Bars. No Alcohols no girls.
In theory the King's Birthday on 5th December, which is also Father's Day, like all Public Holidays is supposedto be dry throughout Thailand but in practice ......
No girlie bars and no alcohol... Well, I can live with that *lol* (being a single lady traveling with kids). We'll see if there's some fireworks for the kids.
I somehow thought it was a bigger deal.
It is in Bangkok. two years ago we arrived at Bangkok on the evening of the King's Birthday, took our taxi ages to get to Khaosan Road area, all the roads were jammed. If you are in Khao Lak, you won't see Girlie Bars. Being my first trip to Thailand alone, female, I prefer Khao Lak . I don't know what happens in Khao Lak on this day.
Actually, we may do a day trip that day, since I now know it's probably no big deal.
You never know what might happen.
