Khao Lak hotel choice

Finally managed to have a look at some hotel options, I am thinking either Orchid Beach or Apsara Beach, both seem nice and decided just to go with 2 rooms. Which has nicer beach and closer to restaurants, cafes etc?

Thanks

Both are very good hotels, the Apsara being bigger and having a separate villas with pools complex across a bridge from it. It is in a quiet and remote location on lovely Pakarang Beach (the only one in Khao Lak where there is surfing in High Season!) with just three other resorts adjacent to it, Memories Beach Restaurant and Bar just opposite on the beach frontage and a few local restaurants down to its right on the beach road. There are a few more down past Memories and across the creek on to Khuk Khak Beach just before the J W Marriott Resort, about a 20 minute walk. Other than that it is a 20/25 minute shuttle or taxi ride to the main townships of Bang Niang and Bang La On where most restaurants, bars and shops are to be found. Here are some pics of it and its beach location from last High Season https:/…

The excellent IMO Orchid Beach Resort is located towards the southern end of beautiful Khuk Khak Beach and although there are fewer restaurants in the immediate vicinity you can walk down the beach and across on to Bang Niang Beach where there are plenty or up to the JWM where As I mentioned above there are others. However, you are only a 1-15 minute shuttle or taxi (recommended in the evening) ride into Bang Niang/Bang La On.

Some pics of our stay at the Orchid when unfortunately it rained all the time but didn't spoil[oil our enjoyment too much at https:/…

Unfortunately all the beach restaurants that were on public beaches have gone but others on private land are in the process of replacing them.

Hope this helps!

My comment re Orchid in #1 above should have read "you are only a 10-15 minute shuttle or taxi (recommended in the evening) ride into Bang Niang/Bang La On." Bang La On, often referred to as just Khao Lak or "town" is the main township with most restaurants, shops and fair number of bars. It is just 5 minutes or so further down the highway from the rapidly developing Bang Niang which has many restaurants (with a greater choice of different cuisines), bars and small shops and the three afternoons a week Bang Niang market.
