Honeymoon Hotels for February

Hi everyone. We plan on spending the first part of our honeymoon in either Khao Lak or Koh Lanta. Since this is the Lak forum I was hoping someone could suggest the best hotels for a honeymoon in the area. We are hoping to finding a 4-5* property that's close to town so we can eat out. We don't mind a quick tuk tuk ride but don't want to be so far that it becomes a hassle. Budget is around $200 per night give or take a few bucks. Spending 19 nights in Thailand so don't want to go too overboard on accommodation costs :)

We were looking at the following hotels:

JW Marriott - looks really nice, awesome pool, but seems a bit far from town. Based on our budget we'd probably go for a standard room at this property.

The Sands Katathani - also very nice, could probably stretch the budget for a swim out room on this one, great location close to town but have read many reviews that say it's a "great resort for families" - not sure if this says "honeymoon" to us

Also the Beyond Khao Lak - this one is quite a ways out of town. Not sure how far though so maybe someone can help.

Any suggestions on one over the others? Or any others we should have a look at? We would also like a nice beach for swimming.

The 5* JWM is only 10 minutes or so by shuttle or taxi from the main townships of Bang Niang and Bang La On and has several restaurants adjacent just back from the beach and others near the resort entrance.

The 4* Sands is on Nang Thong Beach with its main entrance up on the highway at the northern end of Bang La On so easy access to many, restaurants, bars and shops.

The 5* Adult Only Beyond is 20-25 minutes north from centre of Khao Lak on Pak Weeb Beach the most beautiful of Khao Lak's several beaches. Just a few beach restaurants nearby.

Other popular honeymoon resorts are:

The 5*Pullman Khao Lak Resort (until 1st October the Le Meridien when management was transferred to the Accor Group from Starwood) is about 500 metres down the beach from the Beyond. Large resort with big choice of different accommodation.

The 5* Sarojin, small luxury boutique resort, around the headland from the Pullman is probably Khao Lak's most popular (and expensive) honeymoon resort.

All are on good swimming beaches. No snorkeling tough from any of Khao Lak's beaches due to absence of in-shore reefs and constant movement of the ocean. Day tours though to the Similan and Surin Islands and oh Tachai (just over an hour by speedboat from their respective piers near Khao Lak) are very popular.

Thanks Arandora. Had a look at the Meridien, and it's on the shortlist along with the JWM,

Just wondering if anyone has stayed at the Laguna recently, How is the location and would it be recommended for a honeymoon?

The Laguna is a large family resort which receives generally very good reports. It is the first resort on Nang Thong Beach with its best accommodation being the beachfront villas/bungalows. It stretches up from the beach to its entrance at the highway which is at the begiining of Bang La On with restaurants and bars immediately opposite on both sides and then more down the highway into and through Bang La On.

By "family" I assume you mean lots of children?

Probably not the best honeymoon atmosphere at Laguna then, there will be plenty of time to visit family resorts when we have kids of our own :)

Then perhaps you want to check out the adult only Sensimar next door (south) of the Laguna.

Sensimar looks nice! Thanks for the suggestion. Only concern is it's beach, can any one comment on it? Looking for a nice calm clear beach for swimmng. Soft sand too :)

While the Sensimar's actual beachfront is a little rocky, I would not let that deter you. It's rocky because it's located on the point separating Nang Thong from Sunset beach. You have easy access to both beaches.

Here is a link to pics of Sunset Beach where the Sensimar, Khao Lak Resort (now called Moracea and worth considering too), Paradise (worth considering) are located. Pics 1,2, 4, 8-10, 36-38 are of the Sensimar area. https:/…
