Permanent closure of beach restaurants??

Some reviews state that the government is closing these businesses down permanently. Is this true?

Only the ones that have been illegally built & are illegally trading on public land.

Correct - all beachfront restaurants and bars have been demolished. Everything between The Sands and Ramada is gone. Very sad and short sighted. Khao Lak will not be the same.....

Paul is not quite correct. Peter's Bar and Restaurant remains open between the Sands and Bang Niang Creek. There are already restaurant/bars being rebuilt on either side of the creek on private land as there are on Khuk Khak Beach adjacent to the JWM and on Pak Weeb Beach near the Mai.

IMO there were too many restaurants compared with the number of visitors with often restaurants springing up almost daily on any available part of the public beach. Pak Weeb between the Beyond and just past the Mai Khao Lak being the best, or worst example. This was the most beautiful and unspoiled part of Pak Weeb Beach and was ruined with every available part of the beachfront until the enforced removal being occupied by an illegal business whether one was justified in terms of customers or not. That beach frontage has now been returned to its natural state but a fewer number of restaurants have relocated onto private land so that visitors there can enjoy the natural beauty and nearby dining/drinking/massages. The same applies on the other beaches.

These legal restaurants will pay rent and taxes and will have their toilet and cooking facilities regulated like all the previous and current legal ones have been. So Khao Lak will not be the same, it will be better!
