This amendment applies to visitors arriving without a visa on a 30 day Visa Exempt entry (passport holders from 49 qualifying countries) who can now apply for an extension of up to another 30 days at a local Immigration Office or arriving on a 60 day Tourist Visa who can also apply for a further 30 days. The cost for both is 1900 baht.
However, please take into account:
i) If arriving on a Visa Exempt entry, you are required by Thai Immigration to have proof of an onward travel by air (or return flight) within 30 days. The airline you are flying with is required to confirm this when you check in. Failure to have this proof "may" result in you being denied boarding. Some people say they are never asked for this, others say they are, others say they have witnessed people being denied boarding. So there is a risk.
ii) If you are intending to stay more than 30 days, check the cost of a single entry Tourist Visa in your particular country as in the UK it costs £25 which is less than the 1900 baht (approx £36) extension. It is also safer because no proof of onward journey is required.
