Which Beach area?

We re Khao Lak virgins and are finding it difficult to get our heads around the different beach areas. We are going in mid August and are aware that as it is low season some areas are closed.

Which beach areas and beach front Resorts are within walking distance of restaurants and cafes that are still open at this time of year. Would prefer a 10-15min walk than a 10-15 min car ride.

Thanks in advance to any info and appreciate the effort that a lot of you put into the forums that make our decisions so much easier to make.

The main township where most restaurants, bars and shops are to be found is a few minutes walk up from Nang Thong Beach with popular beachfront resorts including (from south to north) Sensimar, Laguna, Centara Seaview, Nang Thong Beach Resort, Nang Thong Bay Resort and the Sands.

The next largest township is Bang Niang just 10 minutes up the highway, also with restaurants, bars and shops and the three afternoons a week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays) Bang Niang Market, with beachfront resorts including the Ramada, La Flora, Mukdara, Chong Fah, Furamar Beach Resort.

All are within easy walking distance of eateries etc.

I stayed at Nang Thong bay resort last October and loved it. about 10 min walk to the highway ( shops and bars along the way) but the resort will drive up to the highway in the golf cart at anytime.

Be back there in 4 weeks :)

@Arandora: Couple more questions about the beaches around here:

How long a walk is it from the Ramada to the Nang Thong Beach area bars and restaurants?

Is there a stretch of beach within walking distance from the Ramada that isn't developed? Just sand and some natural shady spots?

Turn left from Ramada, walk 5-10 minutes to creek, wade across or if too deep get the pull across "ferry" and you are there!. Continue past the row of restaurants and there is a stretch undeveloped beach upto the La-Own Resort, then another stretch except for one bar/restaurant up to the Sands Resort then more until you reach the centre of Nang Thong Beach.Turn right from the Ramada and walk north to the creek over to Khuk Khak Beach which is a very long beach with lots of undeveloped areas and lined with casuarina trees.

Thanks Arandora. So going left down the beach the first stretch of Restaurants is before the Sands Khao Lak? Are they right on the beach - or on a road set back and parallel to the beach? I am looking at Google maps satellite images and trying to get my bearings.
