1. Re: Diving

Wet Season with rough seas and no go for diving is from May to October. March seas may start to get a bit rougher as it approaches but still a very popular diving month.

Not in or near the Similan or Surin Islands which is where the dive site sites accessed from Khao Lak are located. The National Parks Authorities who control these areas close them from the 15th May to 15th October and no dive/snorkel tours are allowed. This is to allow maintenance of the islands and to allow corals to recover but primarily because ocean conditions to get to the sites are just too dangerous in the Wet Season. There is limited diving from Phuket. Make enquiries on the Phuket forum if you want more information.

Hi martinjam1

The Similan Islands are still great diving in March and the boats are often not as busy as Jan/Feb. Do a liveaboard to make the most of the islands. The best trips will also take you to Koh Bon & Koh Tachai (excellent manta ray sites) and Richelieu Rock which is a must.

Hi lexilou1

There are plenty of great dive sites around Phuket but it is a long way from Khao Lak - at least 2 hours each way.
