mama's restaurant

Latest review of Mama's says it is now closed. Is this the Mama's Greetings restaurant near JW Marriott?

Thanks

Ma Ma's Greeting next to the JWM is very much open and the best one there as is sister (literally) restaurant Ma Ma & Mr.Lek's on Pak Weeb Beach in between the Beyond and Mai Khao Lak Resorts. The Ma Ma Restaurant now closed was located at the entrance to Bang Niang Market opposite the Police Boat Memorial Site and has been replaced by Khun Mon Restaurant. Me too. We are at Ma Ma Greetings 2 to 3 days a week for the day, less so these days at Ma Ma Lek's as we've found another spot on same stretch.

May I ask what the other spot is and if Ma Ma Lek's is walk-able from Gracelands ? We are staying in April.

Thanks

Since we are day trippers to various beaches in rotation we always go to a restaurant that has loungers and umbrellas free if you have a meal there. Since the opening of the Mai Khao Lak there is now not an inch between the first place over the creek past he Beyond upto the next creek across to Bang Sak Beach. Ma Ma Lek's is slap in the middle and doesn't have the uninterrupted view we used to enjoy (plus their loungers need replacing!). So you we have moved to the northern end after the Mai and just before the creek over to Bang Sak to Sun, Sea and Beach Restaurant. The food isn't as good as Ma Ma's though but fine for lunch. We sometimes stay at Elicious next door to Ma Ma's for their great food - and loungers!

From Gracelands to Ma Ma's (or any restaurant on that stretch) is a very long walk, at least 45 minutes. and not an easy one on sand and depends on the state of the tide. Ma Ma's and Elicious (that I know of) will provide taxi from and to their restaurant which is a much more sensible option for dinner.

Tel. No for Mr.Lek is 081-892-6303

Tel. No for Elicious is 081-397-3907

There is a nice restaurant on the beach furthest north of Gracelands which we have tried for lunch and enjoyed, others near the main entrance which we haven't, and several on the adjacent Bang Sak Promenade which has had a makeover since Gracelands opened and as a result of strengthening the sea defences. The first restaurant going left from Gracelands, Bang Sak Seafood, was demolished and rebuilt into now a very smart Café/Restaurant/Ice Cream parlour Thai style. We had a very good lunch there and the dinner menu, particularly fish and seafood dishes, looks very good indeed.
