Infrastructure around Khao Lak

Howdy,

I'm thinking of heading to Khao Lak in June/ July and was wondering whether the area is generally still undergoing construction after the tsunami and are there still great swathes of undeveloped land? Or are things generally sorted?

Love to visit, but don't really want to visit a construction zone.

Cheers

No construction zone, KL is the best kept secret in Thailand, enjoy it.

Khao Lak has regenerated incredibly after the Tsunami and whilst new construction of resorts and restaurants continues that is only putting it back nearly into the position it was pre Tsunami when it the most rapidly developing destination in southern Thailand. The two main townships of Bang La On and Bang Niang after recent highway improvements have made them more of proper Thai towns with a real community feel, particularly in Bang Niang. None of the current new developments (there are pics of them in this topic http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g297914-i10908-k7249890-New_Developments_in_Khao_Lak_2013_14-Khao_Lak_Phang_Nga_Province.html) interfere with their immediate surroundings and especially the fabulous beaches which are Khao Lak's main atractions and can be seen at tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g297914-i10908-k70…

There is plenty of information about Khao Lak as it is in the Top Questions on the right.

Rather than caste swathes of land under construction there are cater swathes of land as nature intended not as Mother Nature cruelly destroyed.

Lol!!

Hopefully end June/ early July. The Sands has a deal for USD$115/ night with a few add ons so may get in on that.

I expect that the weather will generally be overcast with the odd downpour?

That is typical for that period. Travelzoo also have a deal for the J W Marriott, details in recent topic in forum listing.
