PADI Diving Course in August.

Does anyone know if it is possible to do a dive course in August? All the dive schools seem to be closed between May and October. Is this due to water conditions in the Andaman Sea during that time?

Yes it is. The Surin and Similan Islands National Parks authorities close the islands from min-May to Mid-October to allow the islands and reefs time to recover but also because of the potentially dangerous sea conditions. There is diving from Phuket though in more sheltered areas near there.Phuket forum members will advise if that interersts you.

Hi

West coast / Andaman coast August you will be in the middle of rainy season hence the diving school are close during that time due to water conditions. For better water head to east coast ( kih Tao). Koh Tao are renow for best sites for diving and snorkeling.

Thanks Sweetpea and Arandora for your replies. I have my heart set on Khao Lak more than the diving at this stage. It will give me an excuse to come back at another time to do the dive course. (Rather than get eaten by sharks by doing it in Perth!!)
