One way drop offs are limited mostly to the international outfits, Budget, Hertz and Avis whose rates particularly for 1 day reflect this. Local outfits, particularly in Krabi where there are fewer, don't usually offer one way. You would also need an International Driving Permit from UK (read Licence Requirements in FAQs on the right) and although it is a straightforward drive, driving for the first time over the mountains is not to be underestimated. Besides the driver will miss all the beautiful scenery - or be distracted by it!
So Bus is cheapest but least convenient, bearing in mind you have to get to the bus station, change in Khok Kloi and get to your accommodation in Khao Lak with your luggage. Boss is most convenient, door to door, and probably best rate you can get - see all his current rates at walagata.com/w/…Boss_Prices_October_2013..jpg
If there is another taxi service please supply details. Boss appears to have a monopoly only because no-one else comes up with recommendations for as cheap or efficient service. More details of the mini-bus service would also be appreciated then all the information can be added to the Top Questions.
Somebody , cant remember who, posted a weblink for another firm operating out of KL - it was a few months ago. At the time, I looked and the prices were around the same as Mr Boss.
For the minivan, I know there was one leaving about 7-8am KL and leaving Krabi around maybe 12 midday. Walkersinn? mentioned that another new company was also running 2 or 3 times a day.
The elderly agent across the beach road from the supermarket was always quite helpful with transport, Happy Tours or something. He would know what's running and to where and hi/lo season.
Perhaps the person who provided the previous link will see this and post it again. I seem to recall it was the Baan Chongfa Resort that provided this service but can't find it.
