Best 4-5 star accommodation

Hi - we are a family of five and are looking for a bit of luxury to end our vacation. We are currently in phuket which is quite full on. I thought that perhaps we could come to khao lak for a few days before flying out.

We would really like something right on the beach. It does not matter if it is quiet so long as there are a couple of beach bars/restaurants - although we like a nice hotel we do like a couple of options apart from resort food. I know the beach might not be swim able but so long as kids can play in sand and jump in pool that is all we need.

We have had the marriot recommended to us - can anyone else recommend any other place right on the beach meeting the above requirements.

Thanks so much in advance.

Kantary beach resort, just beautiful. Great for kids and very affordable. Have stayed at the Marriott as well, which do I personally prefer......Kantary hands down!!!

When are you travelling? What is your budget for accommodation? If after 1st November, the Kantary is out as it becomes Adult Only from that date.

Other than JWM, 4 and 5* resorts to consider which are family friendly are:

* Khao Lak Beach (a few restaurants nearby and 10 minutes by shuttle/taxi to main township of Bang La On where there are most restaurants, bars and shops) - Merlin

* Nang Thong Beach (down the road from Bang La On) - Laguna Resort, Centara Sea View Resort, Sands Resort (recommended)

* Bang Niang (5 minutes or so from Bang La On but plenty of restaurants etc. here) - Ramada, La Flora

* Pak Weeb Beach (nicest beach in Khao Lak but 20-25 minutes north from Bang La On with few beach restaurants only) - Le Meridien.

Hope this helps.

Just a cautionary note about Gracelands. This 5* luxury resort is not fully operational until beginning of November with official opening at beginning of December. Prices for that period probably reflect "soft opening" offers. Newly estabblished restaurants nearby may not be open yet. Restaurants near the Mai Khao lak are also in the process of rebuilding or repairing after damage suffered during the current Wet Season.

Staying at the JW Marriot in a deluxe pool access room now. Just swam from the room to the bar and got out to watch an awesome sunset. Then had a cocktail and swam back to the room.

Heading out to Blue Mist on the beach for dinner. Hope that helps. Cheers
