Eating at the Beyond Resort Khao Lak -prices

Hello, we are thinking of booking the BRKL for November 2013 and I am trying to find out the price of eating at the restaurant there. Is it worth paying for the half board option of £289 each for 14 nights or are the restaurants nearby firstly of decent quality, reasonably priced and are the restaurants quite close to the hotel. My wife does not eat fish and mainly prefers vegetarian dishes.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Is the £289 for dinner in addition to breakfast or is it for breakfast and dinner? In any event for two people that is about 29,000 THB or about 2070 THB per day. We dine regularly at one of the beach restaurants across the creek adjacent to the Beyond, Ma Ma Lek's, which is one of the best Thai kitchens in Khao Lak, and reckon on paying 1000 THB for lunch and dinner including a large beer and a fruit shake, a bit more if we have fish, more for tiger prawns. Veggie options feature on all local restaurant menus. There are 6 or more restaurants in the row plus bars and massage places and more in the opposite direction before and after the Le Meridien. For a greater choice, including international options (Italian, German, Japanese, Steak) the shuttle/taxi to the main townships of Bang Niang and Bang La On takes about 20 minutes.

The restaurants at the Beyond will be better presented, as you wold expect of a 5* resort, but to me and many others dining beachfront in simple beach restaurants serving one of the best cuisines in the world at different locations is one of Khao Lak's main attractions.

Don't know prices at the Beyond but they will be higher than the local beach restaurants/bars and those in the towns of Bang Niang and Bang La On where a small beer is usually 60 - 80 baht, a large one 80 - 120 baht, a glass of wine about 100 - 150 baht, cocktail 150 baht (but 2 for 1 or Happy Hour offers at various), spirits 100 - 200 baht (depending on make and type) plus mixer 15 - 30 baht.

Unless there is a mini-mart to be one of the units in the new plaza across from the entrance to the Beyond, the nearest supermarkets are in the main township of Bang La On about 25 minutes away by shuttle or taxi although there are 711s at various locations n between and mini-marts in Bang Niang about 5 minutes before you reach Bang La On.
