Khao Lak or Krabi?

We are a couple in our 50s and and are looking for a few days after Bangkok to chill. The upmarket hotels on Krabi look beautiful but very isolated from restaurants etc. Is Khao Lak a better option. Have been to Patong before and found it too hectic. Budget around $300 a night. Thanks in advance

Hi

Its depends on where's in Krabi. Krabi is the whole of province and have many beaches and areas to choose from some of them quiet some are mixed and some are isolated. Khao lak is one of the area in Phang Nga province.

Cheers,

The hotels that I like are in Nong Thale Krabi which seems very isolated and about 30 minutes to Ao Nang which is where most of the bars and restaurants are. Khoa Lak seems to have many nice hotels close to everything. Is Khao Lak too Busy?

I think if you found Patong too crazy then Khao Lak will suit you just fine. This has been our experience anyway, Patong is too over the top! KL is quite compact and easy to walk around. Arandora could advise on some good resorts to stay that would suit your needs. Krabi is quite stunning but the nicest resorts do tend to be isolated so the option would be stay in Ao Nang to be near restaurants, shopping etc. However we haven't really come across any places in Ao Nang that we really really like. Just my opinion.

Hi Kathie,

Khao Lak should tick all your boxes, great hotels, great restaurants and quieter than Ao Nang,Krabi

We are similar age group and if you want to chill, Khao Lak is your destination.

We've done Ao Nang 3 times and have no desire to return, we've done Khao Lak 3 times since last March and want to return again and again, every six months if possible.

The hotels at Nang Thong Beach (Bang La On) and Bang Niang are close to great places to eat.

Scoopon currently have a great deal at The Sands at Nang Thong Beach Khao Lak and and Cudo have a great deal for the Ramada at Bang Niang both well under your budget.

That was one of the reasons we didn't really like Krabi as we had to get transport into Ao Nang every evening for bars and restaurants, also the beaches are better in Khao Lak so I think it would be a better option for you.

Is Khao Lak too busy? Even at its busiest Khao Lak doesn't appear to be so. With over 25km of great beaches with loungers set bak not lined up like sardines there is plenty of room for everyone. Bang la on, the main town tends to get busy in the evening as that is where most restaurants, bars and shops are to be found but in November it will not be that busy, just right!

You've had some good recommendations for accommodation within your budget that are near to town. If you want to be on a more secluded beach with beach restaylurants nearby have a look at Le Meridien and Beyond Resort which is Adult Only as is the Kantary and the Sensimar.

Have to agree been to Ao Nang once and no desire to go back. Have to Khao Lak a number of times. KL cannot be compared to Patong in any way. Even if you stay at the Le meridian of JW Marriott you are only about 15 mins from "town"
