safety with ATM machines

We are going to Khao Lak in November and am a bit worried about using ATM machines is it safe? Are there some in Banks that you can use like over here?

The ATM machines which are as far as I recall all outside banks, supermarkets, 711s etc. are as safe as anywhere in the UK if you take the same precautions of hiding your PIN and looking for anything that doesn't appear to belong on the machine. There have been no reported incidents again as I recall in all the years we have stayed in Khao Lak of any theft arising from use or rather abuse of ATMs. The biggest "theft" is the 150 baht (180 baht for Mastercard) per withdrawal fee charged by the Thai banks on top of any charges made by your own bank.

If you are worried about safety, Travellers Cheques are the safest and the charge is only 33 baht per cheque cashed.
