My future husband and I will be on the Andaman Sea side of Thailand in mid-December this year for 6 days. We are having a hard time deciding between making Khao Lak or Krabi our home-base from which to explore the area.
This part of our trip will be more about exploring and being active (and we are not partiers or drinkers). We hope to do snorkeling, sea kayaking, hiking, climbing, and cultural events -- with only a day or two on the beach. Given that, would Khao Lak or Krabi be better?
The fact that Khao Lak is close to the national parks, as well as Surin/Similian Islands makes it more appealing. Is there more to do in Khao Lak than in Krabi?
Lastly, are the Surin/Similian Islands worth visiting if we are not scuba divers? We'd still like to visit and maybe snorkel or kayak around that area.
Thank you in advance for your help and advice. I will be cross posting this in the Krabi forum also - so apologies if this is duplicative.
