Day trip to Krabi?

My fiance and I have chosen Khao Lak (Meridien) over Krabi (Sheraton) for our honeymoon (we're spending 5 nights in Khao Lak after visiting other parts of Thailand) in December. From what I've read, it appears that Krabi is only 2.5 hours from Khao Lak.

Is it worthwhile to use one of our five days to do a day trip to the Krabi area if we leave in the morning and return at night? Is there a recommendation for how to do this? For example, could we get dropped off at Railay for a tour? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I`m presuming you mean some kind of island tour. Trips from Phang Nga town area will be closer if you can find something suitable.

Ao Nang in Krabi or Krabi Town are both about 2 1/2 hours. You can book a taxi from Khao Lak to there or a Krabi tour that may or may not include a trip to Railay. Longtail boats go regularly from Ao Nang to there and also do what is called the Four Island Tour. Bear in mind that Railay is very popular by day.

Contact Boss of Cheaper than Hotel Taxis at cheaper_khaolak@ymail.com for both the cost of just a private taxi transfer or a taxi + driver tour.

Also contact Lora at Dior Travel on diorkhaolak@yahoo.co.th if you want a personally guided tour as opposed to joining a group.

For instance rather than another day on another beach, you may want to consider a day at the wonderful Khao Sok National Park, just over an hour from Khao Lak, and in particular the awesome Cheow Lan Lake, less than an hour further on.
