Khao Lak, Koh Samui or Krabi for Honeymoon in early June

Hello Experts

I am planning for my honeymoon trip (6-7 days) in first week of June 2013. Pls recommend the best choice

1) Koh Samui- More touristy and commmercialised. Moderately beautiful.

2) Khao Lak - Less Touristy but less beautiful and lack of quality restaurants compared to samui. Resorts will be way cheaper. I am planning to stay in Seaview resorts owned by Centara. I can also drive to Krabi to explore the beauty

3) Very beautiful and lots of activities to do but touristy.

Pls recommemd some good resorts in either of locations. My budget per night is not more than 6000 THB.

"Khao Lak - Less Touristy but less beautiful and lack of quality restaurants compared to Samui." - where do these preconceived views come from? Certainly Khao Lak is less commercialised and doesn't receive annually as many visitors as Koh Samui but you are not comparing like with like.

In terms of your dates, it is the Monsoon season for Khao Lak and Krabi and rain therefore more likely in both places but not necessarily a certainty. However, this does reduce the prices and the number of tourists. Khao Lak is a coastline of 25km of beautiful beaches with easy access to Phang Nga Bay and Khao Sok National Park which overall in my view make it more beautiful than Samui if you are prepared to do day or overnight trips.

You have already, it would appear, chosen your resort, the 4* Sea View, which has recently been taken over by the Centara Group and is ideally located on Nang Thong Beach within easy walking distance of the main townships of Bang La On where most restaurants, bars and shops will be open with the only acknowledgement to western fast food being the 1 McDonald's compared with both Samui and Krabi where there are more of this and other western chains. I'm not sure what you classify as "quality restaurants." If you mean expensively furnished, flashy places that put quality of decor before quality of cuisine then I would probably agree but for 6-7 days there will be more than enough restaurants to satisfy the discerning palate both in Bang La On and just up the road in Bang Niang. Have a read of the Restaurant Reviews and the tips for dining in the FAQs on the right for Member' recommendations.

If you are looking for alternatives to the Sea View, have a look at the 4* Paradise, 4* Merlin, 4* Adult Only Sensimar Resort, 5* J W Marriott, 5* Beyond Resort and 5* Le Meridien. If any interest you please post back for more information.
