Family Accommodation

I am looking for accommodation for my family of 5 (2 Adult and 3 Kids - 16, 8 & 5). I would like either a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment/villa if possible. Travel will be the middle of July for 5 nights with a budget up to $300 AUD. Please let me know if you have any ideas. I have previously stayed at the Swiss Hotel at Kamala Beach. We don't mind being out of town but want to be at least 10 -15 minute drive from Khao Lak.

Thanks

Sean.

Hi Sean and ShellBell,

Unfortunately there is a dearth of apartment accommodation/villa accommodation in Khao Lak, so you are basically looking at resorts or hotels with shared or adjoining accommodation. For July your budget should give a good choice. I would suggest the following for you to look at going from North to South:

* Pak Weeb Beach

- 5* Le Meridien has a family wing with family accommodation. Beautiful but more secluded beach with not in the way of beach restaurants open nearby, except perhaps the Rim Lay, 200 metres along the beach but some others on highway outside main entrance. 20 minute shuttle or taxi into the main township of Bang La On.

- 4* Kantary Beach Resort becomes 16+ from November but still taking families until then. Take care to ask what, if any, modifications are being carried out in the Low Season in preparation for the change. Probably even less in the way of beach restaurants open unless any of the ones on nearby White Sand Beach. Also 20 minutes to Bang La On.

See Khao Lak North Map at …walagata.com/w/arandora/KL_Maps/Khao_Lak_No…

* Khuk Khak Beach

- 5* J W Marriott. Great facilities for families and family and adjoining accommodation. Beach restaurants nearby being relocated during Low Season so more limited choice than usual

See map at walagata.com/w/…Khao_Lak_North_April_2010.jpg

* Bang Niang Beach

- 3* Ayara Villas has family accommodation in the garden area. Bang Niang is the second largest township but is quieter than Bang La On in Wet Season but still enough restaurants open and the 3 times a week market is held there on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

- 3/4* Fanari Courtyard Resort has main hotel accommodation with restaurant and pool one road back from the beach and bungalows with pool one road back from that. Great value and easy walking distance to restaurants and market

- 4* Ramada Resort and La Flora next door if you can get two rooms within your budget.

See Bang Niang Map at http://www.t3x.de/khaolak/BangNiangmap.htm

* Nang Thong Beach

- 4* Sands by Katathani Resort. New resort at the top end of "the strip" in Bang La On for restaurants, bars and shops, right on the beach and good choice of different accommodation types.

-2/3* Nang Thong Bay Resort (NTBR1) and Nang Thong Beach Resort (NTBR2). Excellent value Thai style bungalow resorts right on the beach and easy walk up to the centre of Bang La On. NTBR1 has family units.

- 4* Laguna Resort. Large resort at the southern end of Nang Thong Beach with a variety of accommodation types. Easy walk into Bang La On.

* Khao Lak Beach

- 4* Merlin Resort. Very popular throughout the year with good range of accommodation. Located beach front with just a few other resorts nearby and local restaurants also. 10 Minutes over the mountain into Bang La On. Nearest area to Phuket Airport just under an hour away.

Hope this helps
