$80AUD is about 2400 baht a night. The two resorts in Khao Lak which usually attract the "boutique" description are the Sarojin, which is one of the most expensive and well above your budget, and the Chong Fah, where the De Luxe Rooms and De Luxe Seaview rooms just about meet your budget.

The Blue Lagoon, although very nice, is quite remote and secluded, particularly in July.

The Nang Thong Bay Resort (NTBR1) beachfront bungalows are excellent value in the Low Season.

You might get a deal on the Adult Only Sensimar Resort on Sunset Beach, the Fanari Beachfront Resort and the Shambhala Resort, both in Bang Niang if you can get the rates at your budget.

I think the NTBR1 and the Chong Fah have it but for different reasons. The NTBR1 is an excellent Thai style resort in a great position that is handy for walking up to Bang la On where more restaurants, bars and shops will be open than in Bang Niang. The Chong Fah Resort is more compact with very efficient, friendly staff. Those who have stayed at either generally speak highly of them both. I think you should, subject to availability, get a beachfront bungalow at the NTBR1 to meet your budget whereas it would be one of the two story hotel type rooms at the Chong Fah.

Decisions, decisions!

Stewie,

We have stayed at both the Chong Fah and NTBR1. If your budget can afford it and you want 'Boutique" then a beach front bungalow at the Chong Fah is the go. We secured a great discount rate in July a few years ago and the resort was fantastic. A lot of erosion has occured in front of the resort since then and you may find access to the beach a bit difficult.

NTBR1 is our favourite and we regularly stay there in July/August. Beachfront bungalows are great value during the low season, but would not class the resort as 'boutique".Beach access is easy and similar to the Chong Fah, in a good location to access restaurants and shops.

The Fanari might be a good option. The pool access rooms and bungalows are very quiet in low saeson and again good value.
