Quiet beach area - Phuket, Khao Lak, or further afield??

We are travelling to Phuket at the beginning of March - we have 4 days from landing in Phuket before we join a 4 day dive trip to the Similans.

We are looking for a pretty beach, but really don't want anywhere too busy or touristy. Just want to relax, swim and go to some decent Thai restaurants in the evening. We are also keen to see the Phang Nga bay area.

So far, the beaches on Phuket don't look too appealing - is there anywhere nice and peaceful to hide away for a few days? Or would people recommend we travel a bit further to Khao Lak area? Our budget is in the medium range - not too extravagant but don't mind paying for a nice place.

Would it be too far to try and get to Railay beach area, considering we have to be back in 4 days?

Finally, after the dive trip we have another 6 nights, so considering travelling to Ko Lanta, Phi Phi area then.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Going to Khao Lak from Phuket airport takes just over an hour the same or less depending on traffic that it takes to go south to the popular Phuket beach destinations. From Khao Lak you are much nearer to departure piers for Surins and only an hour from Phang Nga Bay. KL has over 25km of beautiful beaches and accommodation and restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes. Plenty of info on FAQs on the right.

When we're looking for a quiet beach on Phuket we head to Naithon, only 20 minutes from the airport but a totally different feel to the likes of Patong, Kata and Karon.

We are staying in Khao Lak ought now ( Casa de la Flora) . It's stunningly beautiful, quiet and the beach is pristine. No one harassing you on the beach but plenty of good little Thai massage places and restaurants on the beach to choose from. And as mentioned, much closer to popular diving spots.
