Which hotel in Khao Lak

Decided on Khao Lak but can't decide on which hotel.

Which hotels sit on the best bit of beach ? After one which has a few beach bars and restaurants on the beach close to the hotel and also not to far from the town.

We have had La Flora recommended to us. Ideally a hotel on the beach with no steps down to the beach.

I know we may sound a bit fussy but it's a special holiday that we want to be perfect.

Thank you

See this link for maps of the various areas in Khao Lak, particularly the latest posts tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g297914-i10908-k…

and this link for current pics of all the beaches tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g297914-i10908-k…

* Pak Weeb is generally regarded as the most beautiful of all of Khao Lak's beautiful beaches. However, guests at the various resorts there rely on the local beach restaurants, bars and massage places and if they want a greater range and do some shopping they get a shuttle or taxi into the main townships of Bang Niang (about 15 minutes) or Bang La On (about 20 minutes). The resorts north to south are 4* My Khao Lak (very family orientated), 5* Beyond Resort Khao Lak (Adults only), 5* Le Meridien ( large but suitable for families and couples alike), Whites Sand Beach Bungalows (3 groups of simple beach bungalows behind 3 restaurants), *5 Sarojin (Adults Only luxury small boutique resort, winner of a number of international awards as Best Hotel in Thailand) and 4* Kantary Beach Resort (very family orientated).

* Khuk Khak Beach is ruggedly beautiful with only four resorts along its length. Again north to south the 5* J W Marriott (details already given in a previous reply about restaurants nearby), 3/4* Andamania (600 metre walk to restaurants near JWM), 3/4* Blue Lagoon Resort (small new resort set overlooking a lagoon just across the road from the beach, nearest restaurants are north across the creek 800 metres to JWM or a couple 600 metres or so past the Orchid Resort just before crossing onto Bang Niang Beach), 4* Orchid Beach Resort (excellent value resort with upper floors recently refurbished. Very popular and direct booking recommended).

* Bang Niang Beach has the most direct beachfront accommodation as well as other just back from the beach and lots of restaurants and bars on the beach, overlooking it or on the roads upto and on the highway - see latest map at walagata.com/w/…Bang_Niang_Map_2013.jpg

In addition to the 4* La Flora already recommended, others of that standard are the 4/5* Ramada next door to the left of the La Flora (winner for the second year in succession of TA Award for Best Hotel in Khao Lak), the 4* Mukdara Resort to the La Flora's right (large resort, very popular with German guests), which are all on the best part of Bang Niang Beach, the 4*Riverside Resort (just up the creek from the beach, excellent quality accommodation and good offers usually), the 4* Fanari Resorts, Courtyard back from the beach and Beach Resort overlooking it), the brand new 4* Monochrome is 200 metres to the beach and surrounded by restaurants.

* Nang Thong Beach which is just down from the main township of Bang La On, * Nang Thong Bay and Nang Thong Beach bungalow resorts, 4* Baan Khao Lak, *4 Laguna.

* Sunset Beach is adjacent to Nang Thong Beach with resorts all the way down the mountain coming into Bang la On and you walk or get taxi into town depending which one you are staying at (and your level of fitness!) The 4* Paradise is particularly recommended and popular with repeat bookers. Others 4* Wanaburee, *4 Palm Beach, 4* Khao Lak Resort.

* Finally Khao Lak Beach is the first beach area you reach coming from Phuket and comprises just a handful of resorts overlooking the lovely beach with a growing number of restaurants, bars and local shops in the immediate vicinity, recommended being 4* Merlin, others I'm not too familiar with.

An idea of your budget would help narrow the options down.
