Mai Khao Lak

Me and my bether half coming down to LOS in ten days, staying at Mai Khao Lak his time.(Merlin three times before) Do we have to stock up beer, water and snacks in Bang La On, Bang Niang, or is there any convinience stores nearby? How fare to White Sand Beach, is it possible to walk back after a sunset dinner? Also wonder howe far to Mama Leeks, to the right (north) coming down to the beach? I guess Arandora have the answers, what should we do without him. Thanks in advance

Hi WN,

Welcome back to Khao Lak, albeit a completely different area to the Merlin.

* There are no convenience stores/mini-marts immediately near the Mai Khao Lak, and none really within easy walking distance. The nearest is the 711 on the corner of the road leading down to Cape Pakarang. Probably better to ask your taxi driver to stop off on the way to the Mai for your essentials either in Bang La On or at a 711.

* White Sand Beach is probably about 20 - 30 minutes walk south along the beach. First you have to cross the creek at the end of the stretch of Pak Weeb Beach where the Mai is located. There is a row of restaurants either side of the Mai including to the LEFT (south) Ma Ma & Mr. Lek's about 200 metres away. So plenty of places for sunset dinners. There is one called Siam just past Ma Ma's that has live music from about 8pm every night..

At the end of this stretch cross the creek (wade if tide out, footbridge if it is in) then walk past Beyond Resort and then past Le Meridien and around the headland but not if the tide is in as it is dangerous and taking care you don't get stranded on the other side if the tide comes in while you are there. White Sand Beach is about 400 metres and the Boatyard Restaurant another 400 metres or so further on.

There are plenty of taxis outside the entrance to the Mai on the highway. It is a long driveway from there to main Reception area but I think they will allow taxis to drop you off there but not pick you up.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Alan, jumped on this trip in short notice, not much to choose from, but got a good bargain and it has been freezing cold for weeks now(10-12 degrees below) Free shutlebus three times aday, so no problem to go to ``town`` Already booked 2 weeks in Bang Niang and 1 week in Kata for next year :-)
