Booking in advance.....

Hi there,

Looking to travel as a family of 4 to Khao Lak mid April 2013. We will be in other parts of Thailand in the weeks prior, so we will be looking to make a booking whilst over there on the hope that we will get a terrific deal!

Question: It will still be on the cusp of high / green seasons - is it reasonable to expect that there will be a good supply of options, noting that the Ramada, La Flora and Mukdara look more like our style, so we would be firstly looking at these?

Anyone with knowledge and advice gleaned from experience would be hugely appreciated! By the way, we will be there during Songkran.

Thanks all!

Contact the hotels & ask them for rates of the dates you wish. Go to the various accommodation websites & check rates against them. You could also ask what season the rates are charged in,or keep an eye out & book if a good deal comes up. Some may also allow the booking & payment on arrival.

Bear in mind that Easter, a popular time in particular for European visitors, is early in 2013 with Easter Sunday falling on 31st March, so first couple of weeks upto and including Songkran (13th April) will be busy. Although rates for High Season last typically to the end of April, some resorts drop them to Low Season, often upto 50% less, about 15th. So if looking at websites those that reflect lower rates from mid April are less likely to go much lower. The Ramada often has good "specials" either on its own or through agencies as do other resorts through the likes of TravelZoo or Scoupon but it is hard to predict if and when these will take place. I wouldn't want to be spending too much time whilst on the other parts of your holiday in Thailand searching around for accommodation in Khao Lak as it might affect your enjoyment of other places. :-)

Thanks for the great advice. I have been keenly perusing all of the websites to compare who has the best deal. Not going to let it spoil our trip, figure we will find something in any regard. We have been to Krabi quite a few times , although that is our second option. We loved Khao Lak last time, so a return is in order as a priority.

Cheers again TA's

Do a quick forum.search about walk invested. The general consensus is you will end up paying a lot more! It's not like Australia wherever have walkin standby rates. And especially not one of the busiest months.

Thanks for that, might take my chances ;). Can't see how that would be the case in any regard. I know I am now answering my own question but surely mid April is not that busy in Khao Lak?

Mid April is Songkran - even in Khao Lak a popular period as is Easter but if you are prepared to spend part of your holiday searching for better prices perhaps in resorts that you would not otherwise book because they are a bit cheaper, that's entirely up to you.

Good Luck! :-)

School holidays, Easter and Songkran all add up to make April a busy time. It's up to you, if you want to spend your holiday looking for accommodation and more than certainly paying more that you should for it, then it's up to you.
