Hi Garry,

If you haven't yet done so, have a look at the FAQ's on the right side of the forum. A lot of your questions are posted in the FAQ's and provide some excellent advice. Other wise, use the search engine to find previous threads.

Perhaps come back with some specific questions.

You will find that all the regular and irregular contributors to the K.L. forum absolutly rave about the place.

The comforting thing for us is that most of them are seasoned travellers and provide good advice.

Gary,

In addition to tanmar's advice, you should be aware that if you are booking the same period as this year i.e. May, it will, as it was in Karon, the first month of the Wet Season, so you can expect similar weather but perhaps a greater possibility of rain because of Khao Lak's geographical position, ocean on one side, hills and mountains on the other.

Also being Low Season you should be able to get accommodation at no more than High Season rates. So if you could indicate your budget for accommodation, do you prefer hotel type or bungalow accommodation, on the beach or nearby, within walking distance of restaurants and bars or happy to travel in by taxi, and any other preferences, it will enable us to make some specific recommendations.

Khao Lak is less commercialised than Karon with two main townships, Bang La On where you will find most restaurants, bars and shops, with accommodation just down from the highway on Nang Thong Beach, and 10 minutes up the road, Bang Niang which has plenty of restaurants and bars both on the highway then down the beach road and overlooking the beach where you will find most accommodation. There is also a busy market three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

There is more accommodation on the other beaches but less nearby restaurants etc.

These pics will give you an idea of all of Khao Lak's beautiful beaches that stretch over 25kn north to south tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g297914-i10908-k34…

The FAQ Maps on the right will show you more of the area.

We have been to Phuket 8 times since 2005 and discovered Khao Lak for the 1st time for a few days last trip in March. Next time we will be back there for at least a week if not for more.

Go, you won't be sorry. We stayed at Nang Thong Bay Resort #1 mainly due to the overwhelming positive reports on TA by fellow Aussies. NTBR is a 5 minute walk to the centre of Bang La On, plenty of cafes etc to choose from. You can't go wrong, great hotel, perfect location.
