How much money?

It's been a few years since we've been to Thailand. We are planning to take £800 each. Going for 16 nights and we'd like to book a snorkelling excursion, khao sok and maybe something else! Will that be enough money?

That is approx. 80,000 baht in total. For trips allow 4,000 for snorkel trip to Similans for two, 7,000 for Khao Sok for two, 7,000 for say Phang Nga Bay for two, return airport transfers 2,000 (with Boss of Cheaper than Hotel Taxis, for instance) which leaves 64,000 which is 4000 baht per day for 2.

Key Question 1: Does that have to cover accommodation or just food, drink and other essentials?

Key Question 2: When are you planning on going? This needed to advise on accommodation if necessary and available trips.

Just food/drink and the wife's need to shop. Accommodation and hotel transfers paid for on advance. We are leaving next Sunday :)

Are you staying all the time in Khao Lak? Shopping is fairly limited there - unless your 3rd un named trip is to Jung Ceylon in Phuket - then watch out!!!! LOL

Not too many beach sellers either! But plenty of t-shirts on the 3 times a week Bang Niang Market.

Depends what you mean by "art work". There are numerous shops, mainly in the main township of Bang La On selling "souvenir art" and a growing number of "art galleries" with prints, some bought in, others work by the artist himself/herself. There is a particularly good small gallery displaying the artists work of mainly contemporary prints on canvas next door to the Smile Restaurant and the Smile has many good quality articles in display mainly brought down from Chiang Mai. Similarly the Fizz Bistro has a gallery at the rear of the restaurant area with good quality articles.
