Scooter Sight-Seeing

Hi

We will be in Khao Lak in July staying at the Ramada.

Keen to hire a scooter (experienced motorbike rider and aware of scams lol) and do our own sight seeing around Khao Lak.

What would be some of the better routes to take and things to see.

Want to go to the Tsunami memorial and Police Boat. Seen enough Temples in previous trips and want to see some local markets and towns etc.

Regards

Dave

You don't need a scooter to get from the Ramada to either the Police Boat or the Market (open 1pm to 7pm or thereabouts Monday, Wednesday and Saturday) as they are opposite each other on the highway at the top of the beach road. See FAQs on right for links to maps.

The Tsunami Memorial is about 20 km north of Khao Lak and is well signposted from the highway. You can catch the nearby long tail ferries and take your scooter over to Koh Kho Khao.

Go south over the mountain in the direction of Phuket and turn right in Tab Lamu signposted Similan Islands National Park, enter the Navy Base at first turning on the right and go visit thecTurtle Conservation Unit there.

Go across from Zantika pub near Moo Moo's for Chong Fah Waterfall. Go north past Le Meridien for Sairung Waterfall.

Don't forget your IDP and safe riding!

And wear a helmet...!!...Police are a bit more laxed in Khao Lak about wearing helmets so you don't see as many helmets as in Phuket...However,I always take my own Aussie standards helmet....To be safe..!!

That's a brilliant idea Alan...!!...We'll take our scooter over to Koh Kho Khao next time...

Baan Nam Khem(Memorial)is approximately 20-25 minutes north of Khao Lak via scooter....Wonderful scooter ride too I might add....

We rented our scooter off the portly English fellow who sits on his verandah most all day out front of his shop which is the first shop in the row near the entrance to the Ramada...We also rented weekly paying for only 6 days rental...1200 baht if I remember correctly...!!...??..
