Weather in October

Hi there,

We are considering booking the Apsaras for some time in October. It will be our first time in Thailand and we are just a bit usure what to do. I know there is some rain in October - but are we talking all day every day and very heavy, or just heavy short showers. Any info would be appreciated especially whether to book the beginning or the end of the month for the best weather. I think November is dryer - but the price jumps by about £300 accordingly. On the other hand we have been in Mexico when it rained every day for two weeks and it was miserable. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

It is hard to say. Some years it is constant rain and others it is not. This is totally unpredicatbale. You just have to hope for the best.

Khao Lak isn't the best place to be in wet weather - there's not a lot of indoor entertainment. We were there in December and there was a fair amount of rain and I wouldn't risk it again personally.

Hi,

We have travelled to Phuket 2 yrs ago and then again Phuket/ Khoa Lak this past October, both times we travelled at the very end of October to get the green season prices and hoped for good weather. We did get great weather, perhaps only 1 day of rain in Khoa Lak and then only for a short period.

For us it is worth the risk, too expensive with 2 kids to go in peak season.

Good Luck

September and October are the two wettest months - usually! December is one of the driest months - usually! However, with the change globally in weather patterns usual weather is never guaranteed.

The other thing to bear in mind is that the Apsaras is in a location that is quiet and peaceful even in High Season. There are no shops nearby (except for a small mini-mart) and just a couple of local restaurants plus the Memories Beach Club situated on the beach in front of the resort (which has its own Beach Club). So for dining out and shopping you will have to rely on the resort shuttle or taxis to the main townships of Bang Niang (15 minutes) and Bang La On, where most restaurants, bars and shops remain open (20 minutes).

Thanks everyone that's really helpful

I am beginning to think it's too much of a risk for the money.

You could look at resorts in areas that give you more options if and when there is inclement weather, leaving you feeling a bit isolated, Nang Thong Beach, Bang Niang Beach and Khao Lak Beach in particular.
