Nang Thong beach to white sand beach?

Hi, thinking about staying at Bhandari resort (Nang thong beach resort). Would it be easy to get to White sand beach from there if I hired a bike? How long would it take, and is it pretty much a straight level road to get there? Otherwise, are motorbike taxis easily available? or taxis/tuk tuks? what would be approx price of these?

Also is white sand beach the same as khuk khak beach or ???

Any other tips for nice quiet beaches there would be much appreciated, as looks like Nang thong may get busy? And also seems to be more of a beach to take a walk on, rather than to take a dip in??

Thank you

From the Bhandari to White Sand Beach would take at least 30 minutes by scooter, mainly along the very busy main highway. Go up to the highway from the Bhandari and turn left on the highway at Nang Thong Supermarket. Follow the highway north through Bang Niang until you reach a signpost on the left for Toklaburi (and other resorts). Turn left at the 711 on the corner, follow this road down and follow signs for White Sand Beach.

Khuk Khak Beach is a different beach. There is Pakarang Beach and half of Pak Weeb Beach before you reach White Sand Beach. See the main map at http://www.khaolakmap.com/

The main form of local transport in Khao Lak is the songthaew, a truck with two (song) benches (thaew) in the back with cover over. These are available everywhere and would be my recommendation instead of a scooter. Costs are reasonable if you are sharing.

Thanks Arandora, for the songtaews can you hop on and hop off like the locals do? In KL are songtaews also servicing locals? or do you have to hire one/share them with other farangs, thanks

No. Songthaews don't just run up and down like a local bus service, although you could probably flag an empty one down. The ones used by locals are usually pre-booked or on a regular run used by them. They are stationed in the main towns, at the entrances to resorts, near the market in Bang Niang and you can get one back from White Sand Beach. You would have to ask others catching one at the time if you can share with them.

I guess a Songthaew from Bhandari to White Sand Beach will cost around 350 Baht. Bhandari is a good choice, we love that hotel!

Thank you all for the useful information, we're certainly looking forward to it ! Yes we chose Bhandari on the strength of its reviews, we also liked the authentic/ Thai feel it seems to have, with the teak wood rooms etc. ....Can't wait ! Will be posting a review/ report of our time there

"Any other tips for nice quiet beaches there would be much appreciated, as looks like Nang thong may get busy? And also seems to be more of a beach to take a walk on, rather than to take a dip in?? "..... Can we add that depending on the time of year, White Sand beach may not be a "nice quiet beach", in fact it may be the busiest beach in Khao Lak, often visited by day trippers.

The beach in front of the Boatyard restaurant or Small Sandy beach on the left as you drive over the hill from the Merlin resort to Bang La On may be quiet.
