First, if you haven't already. have a look through the FAQs on the right where you will find lots and lots of information about Khao Lak and what to do to make your holiday as memorable as you want it to be.

In answer to your specific questions:

* Scooter rental - there are plenty of places in and around Khao Lak where you can rent a scooter, some better than others. I would ask for a recommendation at your hotel. If possible ensure that the hire charge includes insurance. If not that your travel insurance includes it. If not I wouldn't risk it. Scooter and motor cycle accidents and fatalities from them are the most common form of road related accident in Thailand. Khao Lak has its fair share of fatalities each year. Make sure you are given good helmets and wear them. To reach Bang La On the main township of Khao Lak you have to go over the twisty mountain road which can be dangerous for motor cyclists especially at night in the dark.

* Car Rental - best place is Budget Rental which is located at the Smile Restaurant in Bang La On - get a quote through http://www.smilekhaolak.com/index.html They do scooter rental too. Make sure you obtain an International Driving Permit before you leave for Thailand. You need an IDP to drive legally and to be insured. If you do not have one you face big problems with the police, even if an accident is not your fault.

The Emerald has a beachfront restaurant and you can use those of the adjacent resorts as long as the nearby independent resorts, the most popular of which is Jo Seafood. Many restaurants, bars and shops over in Bang La On. See recommendations in the FAQs on the right.

Banks are also located in Bang La On and there are many tour shops. Shop around for best prices as they all offer basically the same tours.

Hope this helps.

There are about 10 resturants behind the Emerald, there could be more since we left in May or less?? The Ruin Thai is on the main road where you will turn off to go to the Emerlad, great seafood meals and service. A few minutes walk from the Emerald at the end of the beach there are two good restaurants, one being Jo Seafood, good restaurant.

behind the Emerald as walk out onto the road there is a great little bar called EnJoy Bar, they also serve up a mean Penang currie hmmmm, they also do tours at very reasonable rates.

The girls are very friendly, and will keep you occupied with there different games to play.

You can hire scooters also from the laundry service, just as you walk out from the Emerald, we did it once and it cost us $10Aus for the whole day, which was great value, BUT I wouldnt do it again I would take Arandora's advice on what he has said. The winding mountain is too scary and we have seen many accidents on this stretch of road.

There are two ATM's very close by, which we have used and have never had any problems with.

There are heaps of bars if you walk south along the beach from the Emerald, where you can also get massages

In Bang La On you can find some great restaurants and bars, so as you can see there is lots to see and do, enjoy.
