SiamCat,

Please try and be accurate with any information you post and base any information on FACTS not hearsay. If you read the report from the link in my original report you will read that recent floods have resulted sadly in a number of fatalities throughout Thailand. The tourist fatalities due to mudlides you are referring to occurred in March 2011 from the period of unseasonal severe weather in Southern Thailand.

The intention of posting information like this is to warn travellers of imminent current weather conditions not inaccurate past information which may unnecessarily alarm them.

So far ... so good. It is raining slightly in Khao Lak right now and it was raining the last couple of days on and off. Some stronger showers in between, but nothing compared with the amount of water that came down 2 weeks ago. Weather (the amount of rain) happens sometimes very locally and we heard about evacuations around Takuapa last night, but all was OK around La On, Bang Niang. Luckily 95% of all tourism infrastructure around Khao Lak is close to the beach or in well drained areas, so that flooding, mud slides, etc is not a huge worry for us (as compared with the north). Just use common sense when you are here and all should be OK.

"Adjacent to Krabi, Phang Nga yesterday saw emergency evacuation of 500 people in Takua Pa district in the middle of the night, while residents and tourists in neighbouring Ranong were advised to avoid national parks and waterfalls, though no official restrictions were announced. "
