Family friendly accommodation & things to do with young kids

Hi, just got back from Phuket with 2 young kids & had a blast!!

Now looking at going back to Thailand next year but considering alternate place to stay.

Would love the options of having lots of kid friendly activities but also being able to chill out by the beach or pool too.

Would love some more cultural, scenic & wildlife experiences too....

Also looking for good quality & value for money holiday just like our recent Phuket experience....

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Plenty of information on Tours and Things to Do in FAQs on right of the forum and at http://www.khaolaklovers.com/

When are you thinking of visiting?

How old are the kids?

Do you want family or separate accommodation?

What is your daily budget for accommodation and standard preferred?

Do you want beachfront or near?

And do you want to be within easy walking distance of restaurants and shops?

This information would help tremendously in providing options suitable to you.

Hi Arandora, to answer your questions to help you provide me with some further info:

Prob visit June/July/Aug 2012 - or is there a better time to visit? (both weather wise & price?)

Kids will be 7 & 9

We can all stay in the one room or interconnecting.

Based on our recent stay in Phuket - our accom cost approx 3000 Baht per night for 2 interconnecting rooms at a 4 star resort.

(We stayed at the Horizon Karon Beach Resort & Spa - we loved it!)

Does not have to be beachfront, but within easy walking distance is ok.

Yes would like to be withing walking distance to restaurants & shops.

Thankyou :)

Hi,

Like Phuket May to October is Wet Season but although the weather is better (more sunshine hours/less rain) in the Dry Season (best months December to February) accommodation prices are much lower, often half the price.

Khao Lak, being a smaller resort area, is quieter than Phuket (in High Season too!) but a growing number of your compatriots are visiting and enjoying the price benefits and embracing the calm and relaxation the Green Season offers.

For your kids, I'd suggest

* elephant trekking (either local or an hour north in Khao Sok National Park)

* river canoing (Khao Sok or Little Amazon - see recent thread at http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g297914-i10908-k4598357-Little_Amazon-Khao_Lak_Phang_Nga_Province.html)

* waterfalls (local or nearby

* ATV or white water rafting (Phang Nga about an hour south)

With your budget you should be able to book accommodation of similar standard and facilities as Karon (our first beach destination in Phuket in 1995, similar then to Khao Lak now)

The two main townships in Khao Lak for accommodation for restaurants, bars and shops on or near the beach are Bang La On and 10 minutes up the highway Bang Niang. Accommodation at each for you to consider includes:

Bang La On

- Laguna Resort (big resort with mix of hotel rooms near the highway and bungalows near the beach with separate kids pool and facilities. Easy access to town)

- Nang Thong Bay Resorts 1 and 2 (highly regarded sister bungalow resorts, beachfront and about 300 metres from each other. Easy access to town)

Bang Niang

- Ramada (excellent 4* resort, beachfront on best part of beach. Easy walking distance to restaurants etc. Great value Low Season offers direct from the hotel or the likes of Wotif or TravelZoo)

- La Flora (4* next door to Ramada. More traditional Thai with various accommodation choices)

- FX Resort (Good value 3* Resort one road back from the beach with choice of hotel room or bungalow accommodation)

Various maps of Khao Lak showing locations of resorts at tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g297914-i10908-k…

Hope this helps.
