Similan Islands Snorkel day trip -- Review..

went to the similans yesterday for a daytrip snorkel tour

usual stuff, pick up transfer to pier, herded in like cattle into waiting area

{hate to see it in the busy season}.

nice 70 min speedboat ride

perfect weather , sea glass conditions.

1st snorkel was good, visibility quite good, lots of fishies etc

then on to main island, 40 minutes to swim etc, till lunch at 11.45

grab a couple of spoonfuls of rice and add the coconut curry sauce in the chicken pot, the highlight.....of lunch

then another 60 minutes on the beach

finally off to snorkel stop number 2

better visibility, deeper and more fishies...

my [experienced] diving companion was quite satisfied with the sights...

then off to another beach,at least there was something to do ,climbing the massive boulders to the top of sail rock.

great viewand for taking happy snaps.

trek not suggested for very little kids or people with mobility problems

then back in the boat and a 70 minute return trip

would have been a lot better with the option of 3 snorkel stops

there was too much time just doing nothing on a small albeit very scenic beach.

usual idiots in the water, standing on, breaking corals and one total goose trying to feed the fish pineapple, what a moron....!!

went with seasstar, ,talking with someothers who had been before with other operators, much the same for all

dont prepay for this tour

its only 1800 baht from khao lak, including everything

brochure or internet price 3200 baht

we bought from our little local tour shop, check oround where you are staying, there are lots..

and buying from them, its their living.

would i go back.

not for 3200 baht

maybe for 1800 baht, but the operators should at least give the people who want to do a 3rd snorkel the opportunity to do so , if you want to sit on the beach , thats fine, it shouild be easy enough to do both...

overall, a good day out..
