Royal Thai Navy Third Fleet Sea Turtle Nursery - Phang-nga

Hi there,

Is it possible to visit the turtle nursery at all or is it closed to visitors?? Think it would be really interesting to go to! Looked on the internet but struggling to find much information regarding vistors/tourists.

Thanks,

Yes, it is open to visitors. Access is down the road from the highway to the pier at Tap Lamu (15 minutes from Khao Lak). Turn right off that road following the sign for the Golf Course. Stop at the barrier - not optional! :-) Report to gurad house where you may be asked to leave some form of ID e.g. passport. Then drive down to the bottom of the road towards the sea. Turn left before entrance to Golf Club House, in between the greens, then it is about third turning on the right, again towards the sea. The entrance to the Conservation Unit is at the bottom on your right. No charge but a donation for the exceelent work is warmly welcomed.

There is also a larger Turtle and Marine Life Conservation Unit on the right along the road running parallel with the beach at Thai Mueang leading to the entrance to the National Parkabout 30 minutes further towards Phuket. Plenty of bigger turtles, giant groupers, tiny Nemos, beautiful sea anemones there.

Hi we visited the Thai Navy turtle nursery back in late August. We took a Khao Lak taxit and it took almost 25-30 mins from Bang La On main street. You go thru' some nice country side but there really isn't a lot to see. They have 8 large concrete pools probably 5 mtr X 2mtre with various aged turtles in them. 6 mths , over 1 yr, over 3 yrs etc.Wouldn't take longer than 20 minutes to check them all out. Good to see them looking after turtles though.
