Car Hire

Hey Guys,

Not long until were coming over to Thailand starting to get excited, 9 days:),

Does any one know if we will be able to hire a car for 6 people in Khao Lak, and is it worth driving up to Khao Sok to do a jungle tour/ canoeing during the wet season.

Have a look at A P Car Rent

Dont forget you will need an international driving permit obtained before you arrive.

Khao Sok in the wet season is a great time to visit and beautiful any time of the year be it high or low season. Some prefer it in the green season as the rivers are more full and activities like rafting and tubing ect are more fun.Have a great holiday.

Both Budget and Hertz have rental offices in Khao Lak and one of the large SUVs (e.g. Toyota Fortruner) would probably take 6 if any kids included. However, I don't think all 6 would have seat belts, something everyone in a car anywhere but particularly in a strange country should wear at all times.

It will be cheaper to hire from a Phuket based company and some will drop off and pick up in Khao Lak for a fee.

Have a look here in the Auto section for a list of outfits, most near the airport http://phuketdir.com/directory/category/#auto

I'd advise contacting several to get the best rate as they are very competitive these days, especially now in the Low Season.

If you want to wait until you arrive in Khao Lak, there are 2 Budget offices, one in the road leading down from the Nang Thong Supermarket in Bang La On (may close in Wet Season), the other in Bang Niang on the main highway on the opposite side from Moo Moo's Cabaret Bar. It is run by the restaurant owners next door at the excellent Smile Restaurant which stays open so you should get a quote there.
