Are the beaches around Khao Lak clean and good for swimming or is it better to use the hotel pool.

Is there snorkelling here?

Many thanks for your info

The beaches around Khao Lak are clean and good for swimming except for the low ( green season ) where the sea conditions can change with rough seas. Best times for swimming November to May. Khao Lak is not known for great snorkeling as it has no reefs of the beaches but you do have access to the Similan Islands and Surin from here for snorkeling Nov to mid May.

We were in Khao Lak this February for two weeks, and very disappointed with the sea. It is murky around the area we stayed ( La Flora ) and you can not see your toes in the water, on walking down the beach for quite a way, it did get a little clearer, but not much. It' s nice & warm though.

At #3, you stayed on Bang Niang Beach. Not the nicest of the many beaches here. Next time try the beaches just North of there (khukkak and Pakarang). I think you will find them much clearer.
