Khao Lak compared to Krabi...Koh Lanta

First off thanks to everyone for all of the great information in this forum!

I am trying to plan out a 3-4 week honeymoon in southern Thailand. I love the sounds of Khao Lak and am definitely planning a week in the area. Next I was thinking of moving on to Krabi, then Koh Lanta and then the Phi Phi island before back to Phuket and home.

Does anyone have experience at either of these other destinations? How do they compare to Khao Lak? Do you think a week in Khao Lak and then splitting three weeks between the other destinations I listed makes sense?

Thanks very much for you input!

I'm obviously biased about Khao Lak and not having been to Koh Lanta I can't comment on it. However, we recently visited Krabi from Khao Lak, our first time since we stayed there in 1999 and found the views of the limestine formations both on the sea and land still stunning but were disappointed in the beaches compared with Khao Lak and Ao Nang very, in cat over, commercialised. The Nakamanda resort we stayed at for a day would make an ideal honeymoon destination and you can lget ongtail boat trips to the islands and to Phi Phi.

Perhaps a 50/50 split between Khao Lak (giving you more time to enjoy the Similan and/or Surin Islands and Khao Sok National Park) and Krabi or Lanta might give you the rich experience of Southern Thailand you are looking for for your very special vacation.

Hi,

Having been to Khao Lak and Krabi and Phi Phi spending 3-4 weeks should allow you to experience the different resorts. Koh Lanta I have not yet managed to do . Each place is so different in what it has to offer. I love Khao Lak for its beaches which are hard to beat and it is very chilled and laid back with some of the best restaurants in Thailand IMHO. Krabi is very beautiful and scenic with some lovely offshore islands the Hong Islands are amazing and also Chicken, Poda ,and Tup island and also the very famous Railay Phranang Beach . Ao Nang beach is not my favourite as its a working beach for the longtail boats as already mentioned by Arandora and is a very commercial place. I like the beach at Nopparat Thara and also Tubkaak Beach is nice. Phi Phi is great for the snorkeling and a beautiful romantic place and i love just jumping on a longtail and finding a deserted beach. Tonsai village in Phi Phi can get very busy as so the main beach as it is one of the dropping off beaches for the tour boats. Khao Lak will always be my favourite but all your choices are worth visiting .Have a great honeymoon.

Julie
