1. Re: Good restaurants

Here are a few of our favourites, old and new:

In Bang La On (also known as Khao Lak Town or just Khao Lak and about 15 minutes from the Orchid by taxi or shuttle

* Khao Lak Seafood (near Happy Snapper Bar (great late live music)

* Weerapats Kitchen (next door to Khao Lak Seafood - cheap, simple, excellent with Isaan selection - spicy Northern Thai)

* Kung Seafood (steaks and salmon also) (opposite side and down from Nang Thong Supermarket)

* Nom's Family Restaurant (just left from Nang Thong Supermarket)

* Keeper (new interesting small restaurant next door to Monty the Tailor - excellent "East meets West" menu).

* Phoo Khao Lak (great seafood, up past Monty's)

* Boonyarit Kitchen (left side of highway going out of Bang La On towards Bang Niang and opposite the Book Tree. Great selection of Thai, Indian and International dishes - and cooking course by owner Aek)

* Everyday Lazy House (just up from the Book Tree on same side going towards Bang Niang. Great Thai and special menu (barracuda in tamarind sauce recommended) and live music by the talented Mr. Ghep)

* Pizzeria Italiano (just before the Book Tree for great thin crust pizza and home made pasta)

Bang Niang (about 10 minutes from the Orchid)

* The Candle (on right at top of beach road going down from the 711 - see TA restaurant review. One of few restaurants in KL with enclosed air-conditioned dining room as well as external. Specialises in Thai fusion cuisine.)

* Hill Tribes (on the left going out of Bang Niang. Northern cuisine from Chiang Mai. See TA restaurant review)

* Khao Niau (just up from the 711 and adjacent to Khao Niau Road (small local plaza) and fronting the Jovel Bar and Beer Garden. Excellent Isan cuisine.)

* Mali (new restaurant offering Thai and Indian with no compromise on either. Half way down beach road opposite Pinocchio's Italian restaurant.)

* Victoria (just down from Pinocchio's. New Indian restaurant. Tell them to take their time to get more authentic flavours and dishes.)

* Chong Fah Restaurant (on your right at the end of the beach road overlooking the beach - great at sunset)

* Coconut Grove (just up from the Chong Fah - specialises in Blue Marlin and tuna)

* Chom Talay (next door to Coconut Grove. Speciality Thai and International menu.

* Joe's Steakhouse (turn right at the Chong Fah then first right and straight down for the best steaks, beef and pork - value and quality - in Khao Lak - advisable to book which is a testimony to its popularity. See TA restaurant review)

For a special delight though, at the Orchid in the Dry Season you have one of the best beach restaurants in Khao Lak - the Sunset Bar, just 300 metres down to your left on the beach from the Orchid. I don't want to spoil the uniqueness of this great little place, just go down there during the day for a beer or lunch or both and let Nop agree a dinner menu with you. Then come back in the evening and enjoy the food, the setting (Sunset is great!) and presentation. See TA restaurant review.

I hope these and any others members add will keep your taste buds satisfied!!!!

3. Re: Good restaurants

Just three more I forgot to add:

Bang La On

* Walkers Inn (the former Tsunami Volunteers Centre on your right as you come over the mountain and opposite the Laguna Resort and now a guesthouse and restaurant run by Yorkshire "lad" and Thai wife offering fantastic value all you can eat BBQ dinner at 200baht if you want a change from Thai cuisine - real English pork sausage, burgers, chicken and beef steaks, kebabs and some Thai dishes. Great English breakfasts with Cumberland sausage and proper back bacon!)

Bang Niang

* Smile Restaurant (on the highway going north from Bang Niang opposite side to Moo Moo's and next door to Budget Car Rental. Great, cheap, Thai cooking always with fresh ingredients, your meal only started when you order so take your time and enjoy. Need to order fish and seafood in advance. Also sells home made tropical fruit jams.)

* Jane Isan (German and Thai ownership offering cuisine from both countries. Great spit roasted chicken prepared with Thai herbs or German style with paprika. Great schnitzel and German noodles too).

I hope others will add their favourites so we can keep this thread growing as there far more great places to eat throughout Khao Lak and more opening (and closing) all the time.

6. Re: Good restaurants

Hi,

Apart from all the others mentioned which are superb a special mention this year from me has to go to Kienglay Restaurant 2 in Bang Niang down a side soi where the Paradise restaurant is and next door to Pla Thong it is the last restaurant on the left down the soi. I had the best fish here in chilli sauce and the tiger prawns in garlic and black pepper was superb.
