Where to stay?

My husband & I are 30.This is our first time to Thailand. We will be doing our Open water referral in Khao Lak for two days.We are looking for a place to stay for 3 days.Pro's & Con's?

We want a decent place, close to or on the beach (white sand beach)

Our price range up to 1500 night-ish

We are looking at Khao Lak Orchid-Looks nice but a bit pricy and a far walk to the main road.

Also looking at Pakarang Villa Bungalows-I am unable to find any info on this place.Looks like it's a bit off the beach.Has anyone stayed there? And have photo's?

Is transportation difficult from these locations? Are there beach hut restaurants close by? Is the food good?

Hi,

You haven't said when you are thinking of coming to Khao Lak. That will help identify some accommodation options for you. You will be lucky to get a resort like the Orchid for 1500 baht unless a Special Offer in the Wet Season (May to October).

Pakarang Bungalows is a small resort a few hundred metres up from the beach at Cape Pakarang. Just a handful of local restaurants nearby but again will depend on time of year a to if they are open.

The Cousin Resort where we are staying is five minutes walk back from Bang Niang Beach and within easy walking of plenty of restaurants and bars on or overlooking the beach and roads leading up to the highway. See http://www.cousinresort.com/ and PM me if you want access to pics and more information.

If you want close proximity to white sand, nowhere better than White Sand Beach where there are 3 very good restaurants next to the Sarojin, each with good value bungalows behind them, so just steps away from the beach. See http://www.aothongbeach.com/ and contact Khun Nueng for a quote (tell him Alan from TA referred you as he is keen to see where any referrals come from).

There are other bungalow resorts here in Bang Niang and other areas too. See http://khaolak.de/khaolakbeach/home.htm and www.seadragondivecenter.com/accommodation.htm for more information.

February is still HighSeason and prices will still be high. Visitor numbers have pocked up considerably since Xmas and the Cousin and other resorts I am aware of are fully booked (except for the odd few days here and there) through to March. Go through the links I've suggested and we can take it from there if you want more information on any.

You can stay in PhuKahoLak for that rate, perhaps cheaper. It's not on the beach though. The Happy Lagoon Bungalows is about a minute from the beach and you can get a bungalow there for about 1800THB, or the Nang Thong Bay resort right on the beach in a room for 2000THB.
