A new and exciting addition to Khao Lak's entertainment scene is the new Bar JOVEL in Bang Niang which opened in late November 2009. It owes its name to the origin of the owners, Westphalia in Germany and its concept, they say, is to provide the most beautiful and relaxing bar with an outstanding service and many extras. The bar is situated on the opposite side of the highway from the famous “Tsunami Police Boat 813” in Bang Niang and has a Beergarden stretching along the Bang Niang river. The JOVEL includes an indoor waterfall and huge creeks, different platform levels, cosy corners, a free library, free daily newspapers from around the world, free Internet (WiFi) and many more amenities.
It serves beer, food, coffee, cocktails, wines etc. and the beer range includes some famous German beers like Flensburger, Veltins, Koestritzer, Weihenstephan and Federbräu as well as Thai and Asian Beers, like Singha, Chang, Tiger, Leo, etc..
At least three times per week (Mondays, Wednesday and Saturdays - great to stay on after a visit to the adjacent Bang Niang market) there is a free concert of local artists (Isan Music, Ska, Reggae, Jazz, Blues, etc.) It is planned in the near future to have live concerts featuring some of the best and most famous bands in Thailand.
The Jovel is under the same ownership as the the Khao Niau Restaurant, which is directly in front of it and specialises in Isan cuisine from the north of Thailand. The Jovel Bar Menu as well as a listing of the different events/concerts can be found at the new website http://www.khao-niau.com
