Whats the weather like I will be in Bangkok for 3days from 23/5/09 and the beach for 2 wks up to 10/6/09

Cheers

Hi tsara,

Have a look at this link for ideas for tours and trips available.

www.khaolaklanddiscovery.com/bookings.php

Here also

http://www.khaolaklovers.com/Khao-Lak-Map.htm

There are lots of tour companies in Khao Lak, mostly featuring the same tours. There is an excellent tour office operated by AsiaTrails in the Le Meridien too.

If it is prices of food and drink in Le Meridien I am a bit out of touch there now but I'm sure Julie one of the other DEs and a LM regular or a member who has recently stayed there will be along t advise.

Outside the hotel expect to pay about 80-100 baht per starter or main dish in a Thai restaurant, seafood and fish a bit more, tiger prawns and lobster more still.

As for weather you will be staying at the beginning of the Wet or Green Season, so expect cloud, thunderstorms and rain but also hot, humid and sunny too. Don't forget your sunscreen as you can badly burned even ion the cloudiest days.

Visits to waterfalls and river rafting are particularly good at this time of year as the falls and rivers are more full because of the rain.

The beach restaurant nearest to the LM, to your left will be closed but there is one up to the right which is set further back from the ocean which may remain open. More dining options are 10-15 minutes away by either the evening hotel shuttle or taxi, which you can catch outside the main entrance on the highway. There are also some very local but good restaurants nearby on the highway too.

Hi tsara,

We brought Autan from UK with us if you can still get it. Boots have a similar product. WE use the local Sketolene out here available at supermarkets and chemists and very effective.

you are so knowledgeable on the area.

Will I have to travel to most local eateries(diabetic need regular meals).

Do you know what like the dress code is in the hotels and surrounding areas!

I see from other comments on Le Meridiesn the garden rooms seem a little IFFY! can u comment as I have this type of room. What is the temp -any suggestions on sun screen

Can u comment on Royal Orchid Sheraton in Bangkok yet again R/only. All and any tips most welcome for both venues. I am beginning to wonder if this was good choice

your choice of hotel is very good, probably your only mistake is to go room only as the eateries are quite expensive we were there in october and liked it that much we are going back this year.

breakfast works out at around £12 p.p

evening meal is around £20 p.p incl of a couple of beers.

as mentioned there is a couple of restaraunts on the beach and a few near the main entrance failing tha it is a taxi into bang niang ,khao lak or bangsak promenade.take a look a some of arandoras earlier postings some great in depth knowledge of where you could eat in the various places.try stocking up on nibbles and beers from the local mini marts/7-11 a fraction on hotel prices.

p.s the breakfast is a very indulgent affair which will cerainly leave the waistline bulging ,you think of it and it will be available

Hi tsara,

Dress code throughout KL is casual, often very casual. In Le M there is no formal code but most dress "smart but casual" for dinner, during the day it's beach wear with shorts and t-shirt etc.

We stayed in a garden view room our first time at Le M which then were more expensive than the upper floors. Whilst all are similarly very well furnished and equipped we found the ground floor, garden view, rooms to be a bit dark because the foliage outside, although beautiful, is quite tall. Some guests also found these rooms feeling a bit damp. So next time we booked into an upper floor pool view room. These are a bit more expensive but if you can afford it, I think they are worth it, particularly top (3rd) floor centre of the block overlooking the Le Spa pool, which are sea facing and the balcony is just great for sitting out at sunset (with your mossie stuff on as this is when they come out!) and sipping a nice G&T or other drink.

Your agent may be able to get you an upgrade or given that the hotel will probably not be fully booked when you are there, you ask for one on arrival. It will depend on hotel owner's policy at the time whether they charge you fll rate for upgrade or a lesser sum. Some have even got an upgrade for free or without asking. We were never so lucky! :))
