Ferry or private boat to Similans or Surin?

Did I get this right:

there is NO ferry to Similans or Surin?

Only the tour operator's snorkeling boats?

So no direct way to get to these islands?

Any ideas how much is a private boat to these islands?

The ferry service to both islands is essentially provided by speedboat through the various tour operators. You can go to Tab Lamu and hire a private speedboat to the Similans for about 2700 baht per person but usually based on a minimum number so it works out about the same or less going on a tour. For instance, at the moment you can get a day speedboat trip to the Similans from Pakarang Beach for 2200 baht per person.

If you want the slower Fast boat to the Similans (takes 3 hours instead 1 1/4 hours by speedboat) that leaves at 8.30am from Tab Lamu, drops you off on one of the islands and returns leaving about 3pm. Not private though and a long return trip with less time on the island. Cost about 2700 baht per person.

The Surins, basically you rely on day and overnight trips run by Kuraburi Greenview (highly recommended) and Barracuda booked through various tour operators at best price you can get. No ferry.

I'm sure there will be speedboats for private hire but equally sure it will be expensive.
