Baan Krating...

I found a good deal for a hotel called Baan Krating.

it looks very lovely. But is it too far away from La On village/center? I think it is too far to walk to La On? How about bicycle ride from Baan Krating to La On, bad idea?

Is there any restaurants/mini markets around Baan Krating? Or should we go to La On to buy snacks + dinners?

Also, any idea how much is a ride from Baan Krating to La On + back?

Hi jone,

The Baan Krating is located at the southern end of the lovely Sunset Beach. It is the first resort you will come to as you come over the mountain and just past the National Park HQ. Accommodation looks lovely but is set mainly in the midst of wooded areas, giving it natural shade but maybe making it a bit buggy. It has its own restaurant, the Muan Lai, perched on the hilltop affording probably the best view of the Khao Lak coastline to the North as well as serving very good Isaan (spicy Northern Thai) based cuisine. Other than that the nearest restaurants are in Bang La On, a downhill very pleasant 10-15 minute walk away, especially at sunset. A taxi back up the hill is probably best and only takes 5 minutes or so. The fare each way should be no more than 200 baht.

There are a group of restaurants which are nearest but these tend to get very busy, attracting visitors mainly from the large Laguna and adjacent Baan Khao Lak across the road. Shops and mini markets you will find further down the highway with the Nang Thong Supermarket providing for most peoples needs as well as several 711s.

Latest map of the area is at http://www.khaolakmap.com/

If you look at the the album of "Bang Niang to Sunset Beach from the sea" at tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g297914-i10908-k25… you will see a photo of a yellow building, which is the Muan Lai. with the resort accommodation either side of it obscured by the trees. The beach area is to the left of the restaurant.

Hello Jone,

You may also find information about this hotel from the Amari website at-

http://www.amari.com/baankrating/khaolak/

This has a good FAQ section and some nice (albeit professionally produced) photographs.

Hi again jone,

We had dinner in Bang la On earlier this evening and checked with one of taxi drivers. Fare to Baan Krating from Nang Thong Supermarket (central position of La On) is 100 baht for 2 persons each way.
