Family holiday in Aug: Khao Lak or Phuket?

Hi guys

Am looking to pick some brains over a family holiday we are planning for Aug 09 with our 6 yr old daughter. We are looking at either Phuket or KL (I know the weather may be a bit hit and miss, but places like Koh Samui seemed v pricey).

We are turned off by what seems to be agressive overdevelopment and commercialisation in parts of Phuket and were wondering if KL would be a good alternative?

We were looking at Le Meridian which has a good kids club. As a family we are happy to relax and don't need to be going out on adventures everyday! Would we be able to find enough to do for a week in KL?

Also, if anyone could advise on restaurants within an easy stroll of Le Meridien, I would be grateful.

Would love to hear from anyone who has stayed at Le Meridien, particularly with kids in tow.

Thanks guys!!

Hello cheekeemonkey,

I know what you mean about Phuket Khao Lak is like a breath of fresh air.I just hope that Kl does not suffer the same fate with overdevelopment.

The Le Meridien sits on a fantastic stretch of beach at Pak Weep and it is really beautifull.

I do not travel with children myself but can tell you that the facilities available especially for children you have picked the right place. There is a very good childrens club with everything toys , books, play stations ect lazy river into a swimming pool, sandy beach section at the childrens pool with outdoor play toys.

Sadly at this time the beach rest will be shut s it is low season. There are a couple on the main highway outside the LM hubby had a meal in tne one on the right at the entrance last night and he said it was fantastic food. You will be able to get the hotel shuttle though into Kl where you will have a good choice of rest open.

There is plenty to do in and around KL have a look at www.khaolakaktiv.net/english/index.html also

www.khaolaklovers.com Khao Sok is particulary nice at this time of the year.
