When are you thinking of going and approximate budget would help to make some suggestions?

Have a look at the latest maps of Khao Lak here

http://www.khaolaklovers.com/Khao-Lak-Map.htm

and here

http://www.khaolakmap.com/

to give you an idea of the location of the various resorts. And here

khaolaklovers.com/Khao-Lak-Resorts-and-Hotel…

and here

http://khaolak.de/

for listings and details of accommodation.

There are some nice bungalow resorts on or near the beach at Nang Thong (for example Nang Thong Bay Resort 1 & 2, the Baan Khao Lak, Countryside Resort) which is the beach to Bang La On, the main town of Khao Lak with most restaurants, shops and bars within walking distance. Then 10 minutes by taxi up the road is the next largest community Bang Niang where you will find resorts of all classes on or near the beach (such as Chong Fah, Amanusa, Ayara Villas on the beach all with small pools, or Cousin Resort, Jasmine Resort, Sudala Beach just back from the beach).

Khaolak Orchid Beach Resort has a very good family rooms; especially in the new building. 2 swimming pools, one is for family and another is for adults only. The beach at the front is very good and quiet. However, you need the hotel shuttle to go to the town if you want the dinner out. It costs 50 Baht/Pax/Way.

You might want to have a look.
