The tour of the islands is worth the trip, but the so called James Bond island itself is a complete waste of time, as other islands are more spectacular. JB has a beach the size of a handkerchief, and is usually full of tourist boats, and nothing to see there.

So given a choice between Phi Phi and James Bond Island, which one is more worth it?

Comparing James Bond Island with Phi Phi is not a fair comparison. Phi Phi is an island with beaches and resorts, albeit that it is very comercialised compared to ho it used to be and so you mightfind it an anti-climax. James Bond Island is a lragish rock with a tiny beach over run with visitors made popular by a James Bond film and is best seen from the sea as part of a well worth trip around Phang Nga Bay, which is about an hour and a half from either KL or Phuket. From KL by land and boat from Phuket or Phang Nga Town. The transfer to the pier at Phang Nga Tow is longer but the trip out into the Bay shorter.

The Bay trip, is personally one of our favourites particularly if it includes a sea canoe trip into the Hongs and especially the wonderful John Gray Hongs by Starlight tour.

If you go down to Phang Nga Town under your own steam (taxi) you can negotiate a longtail boat for just yourselves which will hook up with a sea canoe boat if you want this too. Makes it a bit more personalised but make sure you get a boat with proper lifejackets on board.

Trips to both Phi Phi and Phang Nga Bay can be booked in and from Khao Lak or Phuket but are more expensive from KL as they start from Phuket and therefore involve transport to and from there.
