Which resort to choose

We have only 4 nights in Phuket from 23rd-27th November and want to stay close to the water (where we can swim and snorkel) in a lovely, reasonably -priced small resort without lots of families with children.

We fly out of Phuket at around 9.00am.

We are thinking of Paradise Resort, Ramada Resort, Haadson's or Horizon's in Karon.

Has anyone stayed at or visited any of these places...and able to comment?

Alternatively,any other suggestions or recommendations?

Thank you so much.

1. Re: Which resort to choose

The first thre resorts are in Khao Lak which is just over an hour north from Phuket airport on the mainland coast, whereas Karon Beach is the next resort to Patong, the tourist mecca of Phuket.

Depends whether you want to stay on Phuket or go further afield.

If you post on the Phuket forum you will get more info about Horizon's or other alternatives that meet your requirements.

However, as far as the three resorts in Khao Lak are concerned, the Paradise is on Sunset Beach which is great for swimimming but only limited snorkeling near the rocks. It is a beautiful small resort but not really a family one. You are within walking distance or short taxi ride of the main area of Khao Lak at Bang La On with its many restaurants, bars and shops.

The Ramada Resort is about 10 minutes north of Bang La On on an excellent stretch of Bang Niang beach where I think you will find more families. Great for swimming but not snorkeling as there is no nearby reef and the water although a beautiful turquoise is not clear because of the tidal movement. Plenty of restaurants on the beach (and massage places) and more restaurants and shops withion walking distance.

The Haadson is further north again, about 15-20 minutes by taxi from Bang La On on beautiful Bang Sak beach. It is on one side of the beach road from the beach and ocean with its accommodation surrounding a small lagoon. The promenade on which it is located is a very popular picnicing spot for locals and visiting tourists with a few restaurants on one side of the road and dining overlooking the ocean on the other. It is a lovely resort in a great location but a bit isolated as it is the only resort there and I doubt wherther there will lots of families with children.

Bearing in mind that most visitors are Europeans (mainly German and Scandinavians)there may not be that many families with children of school age at the time you are visiting as they will still be at school.

The resort we saw most families and children in and around when we were in Khao Lak between last January and March was the new Laguna Resort which is on the edge of Nang Thong Beach a short walk into Bang La On and near some rocks where there is snorkeling. Its a very big resort with different types of accommodation and a separate childrens pool.

Hope this helps.

Two great choices. By the way the Paradise is not far down the beach from the Laguna which I mentioned and there are several other resorts on either side so more chance families and children being around.
