1. Re: snorkelling

Khao Lak is the ideal starting point for snorkeling and diving at either the Similan Islands, south of KL, and the Surin Islands, north of Khao Lak. These are two of the best diving/snorkeling sites in the world. Both are just over an hour by fast speedboat from their respective departure piers, Tab Lamu for the Similans, Kuraburi for the Similans.

A day trip typically costs about 2900 baht per person including transfers from and to your hotel, lunch and use of snorkeling equipment (and sea sickness tablets if you need them). There are also stopovers in a tent or bungalow for two three nights. Plenty of places to book the tours from.

Have a look at Khao Lak Land Discovery at www.khaolaklanddiscovery.com/bookings.php for Similans for instance and andaman-island-hopping.com/islands/surin.htm for Surins.

There are a couple of spots in Khao Lak where there is limited snorkeling from the beach.

However, both the Similans and the Surins are closed for annual maintenance and because of sea conditions from May to October.
