Another where now?

After another wonderful holiday in KL this year we would like to return to KL but would like to try closer to the town area. We saw many hotels lining the beach up that way but have not really found many good reviews. Can anyone recommend one that will not be too busy (I know we cannot compare to Le Meridien that we have just stayed at), that will allow us our favourite early morning long walks on fairly deserted beaches and still within walking distance to town. We are a couple in our 40s who like a bit of peace and quiet so not a Hotel which attracts children. Too much to ask?? We normally go towards the start of the low season end of April. Appreciate all your guidance.

Hi Sandemac,

As your requirements and age are so similar to our own, I just had to reply!

We looked at a number of hotels nearer town last October, although I must admit, on our last visit in March we ended up at an 'out of town' hotel.

We thought that for a hotel close to town it would be difficult to beat the Khao Lak Paradise. This is small enough not to feel too busy and has lovely villas towards the front of the propoerty although the rooms at the rear were quite dark.

However, our final decision was made on the basis that for the price difference between the Paradise and The Haadson, we could easily pay for a (huge) hire car. So we had the peace we wanted, a deserted beach and an easy method of getting into town (or anywhere else for that matter) or a walk to one of the excellent local restaurants.

If you're concerned about driving then don't be. You just have to do everything slowly and keep a keen lookout!

Something to consider perhaps?

Although not quite matching your age profile - but being young at heart - the Khao Lak Resort and Wanaburee on Sunset Beach (sharing the same beautiful beach but not as expensive as the Paradise and within walking distance of Bang La On)may be worth considering. At Bang Niang, the Mukdara, though a biggish resort has a variety of accommodation options and plenty of places to escape the kiddis, if any are there at the time. It is also within walking distance of the amenities of Bang Niang and good beach restaurants up and down Bang Niang Beach. Though not as beautiful as Pakweeb and Bang Sak beaches, nevertheless the walking opportunities, turn left and walk to Bang Niang (for food , bars and massages), turn right for more of same but across the creek to the beautiful and mostly deserted Khuk Khak beach. The La Flora next door is also an option. Next to that is the Ramada, so three very good 4* resorts.
